How to use the calculus solver
Calculus questions usually ask about a rate of change, an accumulated quantity, or a limiting value. Include the function, the variable, and any bounds or point of evaluation in your question.
A useful method
- Identify whether the task asks for a derivative, integral, or limit.
- Apply the appropriate rule and keep track of the variable.
- Differentiate an antiderivative or substitute a value to check the result when appropriate.
Worked example
Differentiate f(x) = x³ + 2x
- Apply the power rule to x³: its derivative is 3x².
- The derivative of 2x is 2.
- Add the derivatives of the two terms.
Answer: f′(x) = 3x² + 2.
Check your work
For an indefinite integral, include the constant of integration. For a definite integral, use the stated bounds.
