How to use the integral calculator
An integral can represent an antiderivative or an accumulated total over an interval. Enter the full integrand and the integration variable, and include upper and lower bounds for a definite integral.
A useful method
- Identify whether the integral is definite or indefinite.
- Find an antiderivative using an appropriate rule.
- Add C for an indefinite integral, or evaluate the antiderivative at the two bounds and subtract.
Worked example
Find ∫ 2x dx
- Use the reverse power rule: the antiderivative of x is x²/2.
- Multiply by 2, giving x².
- Add the constant of integration.
Answer: x² + C.
Check your work
Differentiate the answer: d/dx(x² + C) = 2x, which matches the original integrand.
